'Humphry Repton in Sussex'

Humphry Repton (1752 – 1818) came to landscape gardening (a term he himself invented) after a series of unsuccessful ventures and was determined to succeed 'Capability' Brown. He viewed landscaping as an art form and this can be found when studying his renowned 'Red Books', which he used to present his plans, drawings, maps and passages of writing. He is regarded as the last great landscape designer of the 18th century

Over the past year, to help mark the 200th anniversary of his death, SGT volunteers have researched the many sites in Sussex associated with him. The Trust is proud to announce the publication the fruits of their labours in 'Humphry Repton in Sussex’, a collection of research papers..

Copies of the publication are available from SGT at a price of £15 + £3pp- to obtain a copy please send a  request message via contact us
